Carved Oak Cased Clock, Barometer & Thermometer with Anchor Motif
Description
This is a fantastic antique nautical themed wall clock, barometer and thermometer which dates from 1873 (excluding quartz clock movement). The case is carved from french oak and features an anchor motif and carved rope edging around the clock and barometer. It also features a small decorative compass above the clock. The clock features a 9.5 cm diameter white enamel dial with roman numerals and Breguet style hands, but the original 19th Centrury mechanical clock movement has been replaced with a battery powered quartz movement. Access to the clock mechanism is via a hinged brass rear cover which has a small wooden toggle latch. The 12.5 cm diameter barometer is protected by thick bevelled glass and the dial is marked W. THORN, 4, PALL MALL LONDON, S.W.. It also includes a mercury thermometer with a Farenheit temperature scale marked in 10 degree increments from 10 degrees to 150 degrees. There is some staining around the circumference of the dial. The original rear brass hanger plate has also been replaced. The exact date of manufacture (19th March, 1873) can be established from the English Design Registration Mark on the back of the case (see detailed photos).
