Ship's Daylight Signal Lamp/Searchlight, Circa. 1970

This is a fantastic vintage ship's signal/searchlight (sometimes called an Aldis lamp, named after Arthur C. W. Aldis who invented a widely used design) manufactured in October 1970 by Shonan Kosakusho Co. Ltd., Tokyo and Omori, Japan.

The lamp is constructed of brass and copper and has a 20 cm diameter reflector. Overall diameter is 27.8 cm (11") and it weighs 13.5 kg (30 lbs). It's mounted on a unique, varnished timber, floor standing tripod.

Operation of the signalling mechanism is via a toggle lever on the right hand side. This turns the globe on and off for the purpose of transmitting a morse code signal.

UPDATE: The searchlight has now been rewired and restored to full working order*. Spare 24V 60W bulbs are available (POA).

* A 24V power source is not supplied (POA). Operation from 12V DC is possible with the addition of a DC-DC converter (POA).

Notes:

1. The housing is not fully sealed against ingress of water. Plugs may be required if used in an outdoor marine environment (more details can be provided on request).
2. Tripod (stand) cannot be shipped interstate or overseas. Take $50 off price.
