The wheel is made from quality rosewood and has a thick cast brass hub plate engraved "MV - COLUMBUS 1968 NEW YORK". The back-side of the wheel also has an identical cast brass hub plate without any engraving. The hubs are secured with ¼" brass bolts and dome nuts.
A 25 mm wide thin brass ring surrounds the rim of the wheel on both sides.
Overall diameter (spoke - spoke) is 90 cm (35.4") and the rim is 6.4 cm (2½") thick. If the dome nuts are included, the hub is 6.8 cm thick.
The standard of workmanship is very high, however a crack has developed in one spoke near the central hub. The brass ring on the back-side rim has a couple of small ripples in the surface..
Although the hub is only decorative, it would be possible to modify it to take a shaft. |
