The wheel is made from quality rosewood and has a thick cast brass hub plate engraved "HAMBURG 1989 - LISBON". The back-side of the wheel also has an identical cast brass hub plate without any engraving. The hubs are secured with ¼" brass bolts and dome nuts. It weighs about 8½ kg.
A 23 mm wide thin brass ring surrounds the rim of the wheel on both sides.
Overall diameter (spoke - spoke) is 75 cm (29½") and the rim is 6.4 cm (2½") thick. If the dome nuts are included, the hub is 6.8 cm thick.
The standard of workmanship is very high, however the timber has split near the hub on some spokes (see detailed photos).
Although the hub is only decorative, it would be possible to modify it to take a shaft (POA). |
